Peniche in Practice: No Car, With Kids, or With a Dog

Peniche without a car
Peniche's historic centre is walkable: the nearest beach (Porto de Areia Sul) is 10–11 minutes on foot, the municipal market 9 minutes, and the fishing harbour — the starting point for the Berlengas — 24 minutes on foot. To reach Lisbon or other cities in the region, Rede Expressos runs buses to Peniche several times a day, with a journey of about 1h30 (check current schedules on their official site). You really only need a car (or local bus) to reach Baleal, Supertubos or the more distant beaches, 10–15 minutes away.
Peniche with kids
For a family, the whole apartment — three bedrooms, living room, fully equipped kitchen and balcony — gives you space and independence a hotel room doesn't, including being able to cook instead of relying only on restaurants. The historic-centre location means the nearest beach is a walk away (10–11 min), with no need to drive young children around every day.
Peniche with a dog
Casa do Guarda is pet friendly throughout the apartment, at no extra cost. For beaches, dog access rules vary by beach and by season (Portugal has seasonal restrictions on some beaches) — always check the current situation for the specific beach you plan to visit.
